Layers
How generated elements stack, and how to arrange them into a finished design.
A layer is one generated element on the canvas. Layers let you build a composition from more than one generation instead of hoping a single prompt delivers everything.
How layers are created
- One completed generation should create one layer.
- Add Layer lets you generate another element and place it alongside or on top of the existing artwork.
- Each layer can be selected independently so edits only affect what you intended.
Arranging layers
Step 1: Select a layer
Choose the layer you want to change. Only the selected layer responds to the controls.
Step 2: Position it
Move the layer to where it belongs in the composition.
Step 3: Scale it
Resize the layer. On a wide canvas, small supporting elements often read better than one oversized subject.
Step 4: Rotate it
Turn the layer to fit the flow of the design.
Step 5: Reorder it
Decide what sits in front. Background environments belong behind subjects.
Step 6: Remove it
Delete a layer that is not working, rather than hiding it under another.
Saving layered designs
Saved designs should preserve the layer order you set, so reopening a design from My Designs returns the composition as you left it. Save before large structural changes so you always have a state to return to.
Best practices
- Generate the background first, then add subjects on top.
- Keep the layer count as low as the design allows — every extra layer is another element to check before print.
- Name-check your composition at full canvas zoom, not just around the layer you are editing.
- Save before using Start Over.
